В темных-темных коридорах будем мы учить латынь
old slavonic: we will just use different letters for long and short vowels... and we also have supershort vowels and we have special letters for them as well!
languages: that's pretty convenient!
the XIXth century's russian: well, we don't have the long/short dichotomy for vowels anymore, but these letters are so beautiful, so can we leave some of them?
languages: REALLY? and where will you leave them?
the XIXth century's russian: after hard consonants at the end of words...
languages: ok then...
the XIXth century's russian: ...and, to say about "Ѣ", we're gonna put it where we want it to be, with no particular system of rules, so everyone will have to learn all the cases by heart, isn't it great?
languages: * facepalm *
the 1918th spelling reform: that's enough!
languages: ok, that's much better.
the XXIst century's russian: how about getting rid of "ё"? well, we understand that it denotes a different sound, but russian people know where to pronounce it, right? and we know about the problem with surnames in documents, but isn't it funny to change a passport just because of one letter or to have issues with the invalid results of the united state exam?
languages: just... get lost, okay?
